There is important information supplied to you on the side of your tire about the type and size needed for your car. It may take a little practice, but once you have the basic idea, you’ll will have a better understanding of what your vehicle requires.
Usually, the abbreviations begin with a letter. That tells you the type of vehicle. If it’s a “P,” for example, then it is for a passenger car. Following the letter, is a three-digit number that reveals the width of the tire in mm. After that, there’s a slash and a two-digit number that indicates the tire’s aspect ratio. If it’s a 55, for instance, you know that the tire’s height is 55% of its width. From there, you’ll see another letter, and that represents the type of tire. If it’s an “R,” then you have a radial. The last two-digit number reveals the wheel’s diameter. A 16 tells you that you need a 16-inch tire.
