We’re being treated to more innovations from Audi than ever before. The new A8 is coming with a mild-hybrid system, AI, and Level 3 semi-autonomy. The Virtual Cockpit instrument display is available on more models than ever. And that’s not even mentioning the 311-mile range EV Audi is developing. But one innovation has been with us practically all along, and that’s quattro.
Pioneered in the 1980s for its rally car of the same name, quattro found its way to Audi’s production models. At the time, its ability to prevent traction loss by sending power to the wheels with the best grip before traction could be lost must have seemed like wizardry to the engineering world, but the system is still being offered 35 years later. On models like the A4, the quattro system will split power 40/60 front to back, and can send a maximum of 70 to the front and 85 to the rear as needed. Torque can also be vectored between wheels.
The gripping proposition of quattro can be had on any new Audi model. To learn more about the different versions, benefits, and how the system in your chosen vehicle works, ask a sales representative at our Matthews, NC showroom.
