Since 2006 Audi has produced the Audi Q7, one of the full-size crossovers available in the new Audi lineup. The automaker believed 2015 would be a great year for an update. The vehicle's redesign was pushed back almost a year due to the fact that Audi wasn't quite sure how it wanted the new vehicle to look. Now, however, Audi has released renderings and details surrounding the new vehicle, and has promised that it will arrive early next year as a 2015 model.
Explanation for the delay may be explained by a lead designer change in recent years. Due to this suspension, however, the new Q7 received design influences from the 2012 Audi Crosslane concept, most specifically its imposing grille.
Another reason for the postponement was the fact that the new model will ride on VW's third-generation SUV platform, which will shed about 650-700 pounds from the current model, which weighs more than 5,300 pounds. Lighter, stronger materials and a redesigned engine will help the model shed a significant amount of weight.
These engines will include three choices: a 3.0-liter TDI, a 3.0-liter, and a 4.0-liter TFSI. A plug-in hybrid model will also be available, though it may not make its way to North America.
The redesign will be noticeable at first glance – both on the interior and exterior. The inside will feature premium materials and the latest in technology.
