All Audi models have at least five things in common: luxury, performance, premium materials, drop-dead-gorgeous looks, and signature Audi design language. This kind of continuity is most admirable, especially for a brand which seems to be adding new models to its lineup with speed that's on par with the brand's cars themselves... Don't worry, we're not about to tell you they're throwing their most valuable assets out the window. They're keeping the luxury, premium materials, lustful looks, and signature aesthetics. They are, however, creating three new dialects of their current design language.
The new dialects, Audi is developing will, of course, be easily recognized as Audi. That said, they will serve to create more dramatic differentiation between models, giving them a stronger identity in the market than ever before.
News of Audi's effort to distinguish the models within their award-winning lineup was first revealed in a recent interview with Audi Design Director, Stefan Sielaff. In the interview, Sielaff, explains simply, "We know that some people think our saloons look too alike and are well into a project to change that. We will mainly do that with the proportions of those cars..."1
The "project" Sielaff mentions is officially dubbed "AQR". Like any acronym, each letter represents something different. In the case of "AQR", "A" is for Audi (saloons and hatchbacks), "Q" for Quattro (SUV models) and "R" for sports cars. Sielaff went on to divulge that Audi is working toward further differentiating each of their three model segments by integrating different grilles, headlights and exterior surfaces.
At this time, these are all of the details, Audi of Charlotte, located at 9300 E Independence Blvd in Matthews, NC is at liberty to share. We do, however, promise more news surrounding the "AQR" initiative, coming soon. So be sure to stay tuned.
