Audi is about to make managing toll payments and accounts throughout America much easier for new Audi drivers with its upcoming Integrated Toll Module (ITM) technology. Audi of America is expanding its vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) technology beginning in late 2018 to include the launch of a vehicle-integrated toll payment technology on select new Audi vehicles in the United States. The ITM is a toll transponder built into the vehicle's rearview mirror that allows drivers to access toll roads in the U.S. and parts of Canada and Mexico. Audi drivers can say goodbye to the need to manage multiple toll accounts, or clutter their car's dash or windshield with various electronic toll payment passes. Drivers of Audi vehicles equipped with this innovative, vehicle-integrated toll payment technology will be able to adjust module settings through the vehicle's MMI system –- including turning the ITM on or off and adjusting the occupant settings for HOV lanes.
The mirror-based Integrated Toll Module technology was developed for Audi by Gentex Corporation, headquartered in Zeeland, MI, USA, which also supplies automatic-dimming mirrors for all Audi vehicles.
