At long last, it’s here, and it’s ready to be noticed. For the first time, the four rings is offering the 2018 Audi A5 Sportback in the United States. With three more doors over its coupe sibling, this sporting hatch offers plenty of standard luxury, more available tech, and a mix of practicality and performance to augment its maverick looks.
It doesn’t depart from Audi’s visual formula entirely, but it certainly stands out with that fastback shape. On the inside, drivers will find a similar treatment to the A4, but with gobs more cargo room—46 cu-ft with the seats down. Leather is standard, as is Audi MMI, and a Quattro all-wheel drive system that normally sends 60 percent of its power aft, and the rest forward. Semi-autonomous technology, and Virtual Cockpit are the futuristic highlights, but when it comes to performance, it’s all pure driving goodness with controlled body motions, balanced and precise steering, and a lot of power.
