Changing the oil in your vehicle every 3,000 miles may no longer be required depending on the vehicle that you drive. In fact, if you drive a car that is less than 20 years old you could actually be causing damage to your vehicle having your oil changed this frequently. The chemistry of engine oil is much different today than it was in the past as are the engines powering our vehicles.
With the advancements that we have seen in the last two decades, most vehicles only require their oil to be changed every 5,000, 7,500, or 10,000 miles. If you are uncertain what the oil change frequency recommendation is for your vehicle the best thing to do is refer to your owner's manual.
