Announced amid the flurry of the Geneva Motor Show, for those who may have missed it, the new Audi SQ7 TDI is an automotive juggernaut, and it is absolutely stacked. Boasting a 4.0-liter V-8 diesel engine, which features two turbochargers and one electric compressor, all together, the SQ7 TDI can produce 435 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. Just to rub it in a bit, the SQ7 TDI also features an eight-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive, and a four-wheel steering system. So yeah, it’s more than a little impressive. Faster-than-an-actual-jet impressive? You be the judge.

The question isn’t whether Americans will see the SQ7 at all, it’s whether we’ll see the TDI version. After the recent diesel emissions scandal, the decision to market a diesel vehicle in America would be a bold step from the European automaker. However, when asked by Autoblog whether North America could expect the diesel version of the SQ7, Audi USA spokesman Mark Dahncke said that “the SQ7 is not officially signed off on for the U.S., but we are optimistic.”
Short of official confirmation, it is heartening to hear such encouraging words from Audi’s U.S. spokesperson. So, while it remains officially in international limbo, the Audi SQ7 TDI is still a force to be reckoned with. At Audi of Charlotte, located on 9300 E. Independence Blvd., Matthews we hope that those of us in America will be given an opportunity for that reckoning sooner rather than later.
