When you find yourself in stop and go traffic, brake lights become an important thing to keep your eyes on. Audi sees the importance of this and wants to take this kind of safety one step further. To keep drivers more informed out on the roads, the automaker is working on the Swarm Taillight Concept.
This new concept was nicknamed "the swarm" because of the way the light display resembles a swarm of animals like birds or a school of fish. Using OLEDs (organic light-emitting diodes), drivers can be notified of much more than when the car in front of them slows down. Instead they can learn about the car's speed and what the condition of the road may be.
Brighter and more efficient than normal LEDs, these OLED lights, which are charged by electric currents, will move in ways that some would call mesmerizing. Although this type of technology would certainly makes sitting in traffic more manageable in the Concord, Matthews and Rock Hill areas, there are still some concerns regarding the safety of these lights since they might appear distracting to drivers.
Audi has to continue to develop and thoroughly test out this concept before it can be implemented in any of the new Audi models. Be sure to check back in with our Audi of Charlotte blog for future updates regarding this ambitious undertaking and its outcome.
