Not long ago, Audi got the ball rolling on its e-tron plug-in hybrid powertrain by announcing the commencement of an e-tron pilot program. Fast forward a few months later and it seems as though that ball is rolling even faster than expected.
While consumers still won't find e-tron technology on the lots of Audi of Charlotte at 9300 E. Independence Blvd. Matthews, NC 28105 quite yet, the automaker announced that it will have a market-ready e-tron model by 2014. Which stellar new Audi vehicle will be the first to get a hold of the electric technology? None other than the highly-practical yet fun-to-drive Audi A3. Audi also confirms that an e-tron variant of the A4 and Q7 will follow shortly after.
Regarding the future of Audi e-tron technology, Rupert Stadler, Audi CEO, says, "While we are planning small-scale production for this car, which is a vital element in our innovation and technology plans, the electric driving experience will become a reality for a growing clientele with our plug-in hybrids."1 In fact, Audi is so dedicated to delivering some form of electric mobility to the masses that it plans to have an e-tron model available in every vehicle segment by the year 2020.
Like the vehicles they produce, Audi engineers are moving fast. To keep up with all the latest brand information, be sure to stay tuned to our Audi of Charlotte blog.
