Audi of Charlotte in Matthews, NC would like to know, How familiar are you with diesel? We're guessing the answer is somewhere along the scale of little to not at all. That's because here in the United States diesel engines aren't exactly prominent. Audi, however, has done its research and come to an intriguing discovery surrounding the internal combustion engine option.
For quite some time now, we've all come to accept hybrids as the rulers of the fuel-efficient world. Nonetheless, the intelligent minds at Audi did a bit of poking around and found that in certain cases, diesel actually trumps hybrid for best fuel-economy numbers. Johan de Nysschen, President of Audi, provides a good example. He notes, "Our current A8 with the 4.2L gasoline V-8 gets the same fuel economy as hybrid from BMW, Lexus and Mercedes. Imagine now what happens when you put a diesel in the car."1
Well Mr. Nysschen, we know exactly what happens. Using a 3.0L V6 diesel engine, the already-efficient Audi A8 achieves a remarkable 39.2 mpg. That's nearly three miles higher than its hybrid counterpart! Taking these factors into consideration, Audi officials have decided not to release an A8 hybrid into the U.S. market. Instead, the automaker is going to focus its attention on introducing diesel-powered variants. At this point in time, we don't know exactly when these new Audi models will arrive. However, we can say that a diesel variant of the Audi Q5 is already in the works.
Those looking to acquire a more in-depth explanation of diesel benefits need only contact one of the team members at Audi of Charlotte, 9300 E. Independence Blvd. Matthews, NC 28105. We're more than willing to sit down and explain this or any other Audi initiative with you in person.
