Preparing a car for the changes in the season can make life easier for a driver. Changing up the oil, for example, can lend an assist to engine performance. You want your engine to last and operate efficiently, so be sure the motor oil has the right viscosity level.

Viscosity is an engineering term, but it doesn’t refer to anything too complicated. The word reflects how easy motor oil flows. Thick motor oil won’t come out of the container easily, thin motor oil does. In hot weather, thick oil becomes preferable.

How do you figure out viscosity ratings? On the container, you will see the letter W, which stands for winter. Number right before the W tells you the cold viscosity level, while the one after it tells you the one for hot weather.
